The repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic on the health of pregnant women and the development of the fetus are yet to be defined, which is why there is ambiguity when it comes to the level of threat and what it means to contract the virus. Prof. Orit Taubman-Ben Ari of the BIU Weisfeld School of Social Work, along with doctoral candidates Miriam Hasson and Salam Abu‑Sharkia, examined the distress of pregnant women during the outbreak of COVID-19.

Agriculture started about 11,000 years earlier than originally believed – and right in this area

Scarce rains during the late 1980s and late 1990s allowed for the uncovering of an ancient site at Ohalo, on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. At the ancient village, estimated to be around 23,000 years old, there were earth-shattering findings made in relation to the Upper Paleolithic period. The site, which was well-preserved due to various environmental factors, held a large amount and range of seeds.

Prof. Yaron Harel, of Bar-Ilan University’s Israel and Golda Koschitzky Department of Jewish History and Contemporary Jewry, has been Dean of BIU’s Faculty of Jewish Studies since 2018. He has published books and dozens of articles in leading journals in Israel and abroad that focus on the social, cultural and spiritual life of the Jewish communities in Syria, Iraq, Kurdistan, Yemen, Bukhara, Greece, Lebanon, the Land of Israel, and Egypt in modern times.
