Earlier this month the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine conducted an international workshop entitled Mathematics of the MusculoSkeleton: Post-Genome Analysis for Bone Biology.

The workshop included online presentations, discussions and innovative approaches, opportunities, and challenges addressed by Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and deep machine learning from experts in the field of musculoskeletal (MSK) disease, including osteoporosis, and sarcopenia.

Ladino Academy Elects Top Officials

Two Bar-Ilan University professors have been elected to the two most senior positions at the Israel National Academy of Ladino. Prof. (Emeritus) Ora Schwarzwald was elected president of the academy and Prof. Shmuel Refael, Director of the University's Naime and Yehoshua Salti Institute for Ladino Studies was appointed scientific secretary.

The Presidential Award of Distinction  was established to honor the friends of the university and its supporters from Israel and abroad for their contribution to the university's achievements and developments.

Light Beam Knots Allow Us to Store Information and Pass it Along

The mathematical knot theory explores structures of knots and the quantities they conserve. In this research, the knots and their conserved quantities were imprinted into light beams using electro-optical means, in a way that allows encoding information on one end, immediate transfer through optical fiber or free space, and decoding it on the other end.

Bar-Ilan University confers "Honorary Doctorate" degrees, "Presidential Awards of Distinction"  and "Lifetime Achievement Awards" to individuals who have made their mark in Israel and abroad, in science and culture, government and economy, Jewish education and defense, and other significant areas, as well as to devoted university friends who have contributed to its development and advancement.

Research among second-generation Holocaust survivors indicates that children of survivors, who suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), are at higher risk of developing PTSD themselves. Similar findings arise from research led by Prof. Amit Shrira, along with Dr. Benjamin Mollov of Bar-Ilan University and Chantel Mudahogora, a therapist who survived the Rwanda massacre. Twenty-five years after the Tutsi tribe massacre in Rwanda, it seems that inter-generational influence is present there as well.
