Welcome to Bar Ilan University (the “University”, “Us” or “We”) official website (the “Site”).

We respect the privacy of our website Users (the “User(s)” or “You”) on the Site and are committed to protect the personal information that Users share with us in connection with the use of the Site. We believe that our users have the right to be familiar with our policy regarding the collection and usage of personal data obtained during the use of the Site.

The Site contains information in different and various areas, such as: general information regarding the University, its services and personnel, services and information for prospective students, students, graduates, news, events, articles, videos, etc.  

The University has defined a privacy policy for using the Site and reserves the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time and in its sole discretion.

User will be responsible to be updated, at any time, with every change and/or modification made by the University to this Privacy Policy. The user hereby waives any claim and will be prevented and silenced from raising any claim and / or demand in connection with the aforesaid. Change or modification to this Privacy Policy will be entered into effect from the publication date according to the “last modified” date stated above. Please check the webpage above regularly for each change.

The University may terminate, replace, supplement, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Site, including the availability of any features, at any time. Remove, modify, or otherwise change any content, including that of third parties, on or from this Site. The University may impose limits on certain features and services or restrict your access to parts or the entire Site without notice or liability. The user hereby waives any claim and will be prevented and silenced from raising any claim and / or demand in connection with the aforesaid.

Data Protection Officer

The University has appointed Meital Dahari, Adv from Primesec Ltd as the University’s Data Protection Officer (“DPO”).

The DPO’s roles and responsibilities are defined on the EU data protection regulation (GDPR) which enable people maximal control over their personal data.

The DPO’s main roles are:

  • Consulting the University regarding its obligation according to the privacy legislation.
  • Supervise the University compliance with privacy legislation, with reference to additional legislation which apply on the University.
  • Be the POC and corporate with supervision authorities regarding to privacy issues.

Collection of Information and usage

Information you provide to the University: We collect information about you through application forms placed on the Site or by Chat with a human representative, as long as you choose to use those means, by which You will be asked to provide personal information such as: name, email address, ID number, phone number, etc. The University will not be exposed to your personal data apart from the information you have provided to Us.

The information may be kept on the University’s systems and will be used solely by the University for the purpose of handling your application or contact with prospective students, for improving the service provided by Us, and for providing information regarding programs and course of studies, scholarships and awards, activities at or on behalf of the University, including enrichment activities, leisure, culture, services and benefits for students, etc.

Information the University collects automatically:

When You use the Site, the University collects data sent to it by the device You use to access the Site. This data is statistical, aggregated, and unidentified regarding your use of the Site, e.g. pages you have viewed, suggestions and services that interested you, your IP address, etc. we use this data for statistical purposes and for improving the User experience on the Site. We also collect anonymous data using Cookies and Internet beacons. Please read our Cookie Policy described later in this document.

Use of the information:

The University collects the above information to provide You the usage and services in the Site and to customize and improve your experience on the Site. We will use Your personal information according to this document, for the purpose of direct marketing, to offer you lectures, conferences and seminars, for registration and to provide you the services that may interest you, to verify your identity, to measure the Site’s performances and to improve its content and design, etc.

Transfer information to third parties:

We will not transfer your personal information, including the data collected referring to You during your usage of the Site (as far as this information and data identify you personally), unless in the following situations:

  1. By Your demand or on your explicit consent.
  2. In any case that the User has breached the term of this Privacy Policy or Terms of Use, and / or in cases that the User or anyone on his  behalf, performed or tried to perform, through the Site or related to it, actions that contradict the terms of  the Privacy Policy or Terms of Use and / or any provisions of any legislation.
  3. Due to a judicial order instructed to the university to hand over the information to third parties.
  4. Due to any disputes, claims, lawsuits, demands and / or legal proceeding which will be conducted between the user and / or anyone on his behalf and the University and / or anyone on its behalf.
  5. In any case that the University assumes the information’s provision to be  necessary for preventing  serious damage to the property and / or bodies of the University, the user and / or third parties and / or for preventing other serious damage, at the sole discretion of the University.
  6. In case when the University transferred or assigned to third party its activity and / or rights and obligations towards the User, in condition that the third party will undertake the provisions of this Privacy Policy.
  7. For external processing and providing the services of the Site.
  8. Anonymously – We may share anonymous data that does not enable personal identification with the public, such as developers or stakeholders, for research and / or statistical purposes and / or for improving the services.

The Site may, from time to time, contain, display, or allow You to view, or access, links to other sites and/or interact with third-party content and other sources not owned or controlled by the University, as well as materials, data or information provided, posted, or offered by third parties. The display of a third-party content and/or any links to other sites does not (and will not be construed as) in any way imply, suggest, or constitute any sponsorship, endorsement, or approval by the University of such material, data, information, content, service, products provided, posted or offered by such third party , nor any affiliation between the University and such a third party. The University is not responsible or liable for third-party content, third-party terms of use, privacy policy, actions, omissions, or practices. Please read the terms of use and privacy policies of any third party that you interact with before you engage in any activity.

In addition, the Site may contain links to secondary websites that are related to the main domain of the Site (e.g. University’s units, faculty, etc.). To learn more about the way your personal information has been collected and used on those websites, we recommend that You will read their Privacy Policy and Terms of Use and / or apply directly to the relevant unit to receive the aforementioned information.  

Information security

We take a great care in implementing and maintaining the security of the Site, and our Users’ personal information (either by ourselves or by receiving services from third parties who are certified service providers).  We employ industry standard procedures and policies to ensure the safety of our Users’ Personal Information and prevent unauthorized use of any such information. However, we do not and cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur. If you have any concern regarding  a type of information, please avoid from transferring it through the internet.

User’s information security

You can login through the Site to personal information maintained in the University’s systems by identifying with username and password. You should take basic protection measures on the device used to access the Site to maintain and protect your information according to Usage of IT Resources Policy published on the Site.

You might be able to choose the automatic login option (“remember me”) by providing a memory instruction to the system to save your credentials for the University’s systems, which can be logged through the Site. Please note that if You do not log out from the system and / or if your mobile device has not been rebooted, it will be possible to login to the system without re-entering your credentials, even if the SIM card will be replaced.

Therefore, if you are transferring your mobile device to another person, even if that person is using a different SIM card, please make sure to log out from the system or reboot your mobile device before transferring it.

Since the identification to the systems is based upon your personal data, you must inform the University within every change to that personal information.

You may not allow any other person to use your account. You must inform the University within every unauthorized use on your account so We can take appropriate steps.

Databases

The information provided by You during your use of the Site, as required by the type of service, and any other information that will be collected on you regarding to the services that you registered to and / or during your use on the Site, will be maintained at the University’s registered databases, which the University uses as information according to every legislation and according to this Privacy Policy.

The right to view the data and its rectification

You are entitled to view the data hold on You on the University’s databases, by you or by your representative which has been permitted by writing or by a legal guardian. The University will reply to your request as soon as possible and will enable you to view your information no later than 30 days from the date of the request’s submission..

You are entitled, after viewing your information and finding it incorrect, incomplete, unclear, or not updated, request the deletion or rectification of your information. The University will reply to your request as soon as possible and no later than 30 days from the date of the request’s submission..

Direct marketing

The University may send you from time to time marketing information related to the University and its services. This information will be sent to you upon your consent and in any case, you can always revoke your consent and not receive more of such messages.
