Rector's Prize for Scientific Innovation for 2021

Sixteen researchers have been awarded this year’s Rector’s Prize for Scientific Innovation, in recognition of their research achievements in 2021. The ceremony was held on Wednesday, June 23 on the BIU campus. The recipients were selected by two committees headed by the BIU Rector, Prof. Amnon Albeck.

Vitamin D and COVID-19

102 Years Since the Founding of the Haganah

On June 15, 1920, the Haganah was founded. The main paramilitary organization of the “Yishuv” (Jewish population) in pre-State Israel, the Haganah operated for 28 years until the state’s establishment, and was, in fact, a crucial factor in the formation of the nascent State of Israel. The Haganah also filled important civilian roles - bringing new immigrants to Israel and promoting Jewish settlement. 

Impacting Underserved Populations

High-profile COVID-19 vaccination campaigns have put a spotlight on the organization and delivery of vaccination services in the European Union. Saving the Unique Red Sea Coral Reef

The Red Sea Reef Foundation (RSRF) has awarded research grants to five scientists from Israel and Jordan – including two from Bar-Ilan University -- who are studying the Red Sea's coral reef, one of the world’s largest marine refuges from climate change.

Israelectrochemistry 2021

Bar-Ilan University hosted Israelectrochemistry 2021– this year’s annual meetings of the Israel Electrochemical Society (ISEL) on campus on June 17, 2021. Convening electrochemists from academia, research centers and industry, the event opened with an online keynote lecture given by the 2019 Nobel Prize laureate in chemistry, Prof. M. Stanley Whittingham, who received an Honorary Doctorate degree from BIU in May. He spoke on “Lithium Battery Origins & Future Challenges/Opportunities” on June 16.
