Hotline for Refugees and their Families

Faculty members and graduate students from BIU’s Department of Psychology are volunteering on a hotline opened in the department following the outbreak of war in the Ukraine. The hotline seeks to provide psychological support services to refugees, and especially their families who are in Israel, who feel distressed because of the situation. The hotline will offer support and referrals to other relevant parties if necessary.

The Graduate Program in Conflict Management, in cooperation with the Project for the Study of Religion, Culture and Peace, Mosaica - The Religious Peace Initiative, and the Berkeley Center at Georgetown University recently held its second annual conference on religious diplomacy.

Extensive Upgrade of Campus Infrastructure

During Academic Year 2021-2022, significant physical and digital improvements, totaling some ILS 15 million, have been made on the Bar-Ilan University campuses in Ramat Gan and in Safed.  These include a technological and structural upgrade of 30 research laboratories, the installation of advanced hybrid teaching systems in 80 classrooms, preparation of green classrooms for outdoor learning, added food and beverage concession stands in classroom buildings, and 220 new parking spaces for the benefit of students and visitors.

Bar-Ilan University Prof. Rachela Popovtzer is a recipient of a prestigious Consolidator Grant from the EU's European Research Council (ERC). The ERC Consolidator Grants, announced today, are awarded to outstanding researchers with a scientific track record showing great promise.

Fuel Cells for Green Energy Production

A new green-tech startup, Refhuel, will develop reversible fuel cell technology. The new company is the result of a partnership between BIRAD, Bar-Ilan Research & Development Company, and Refhuel Limited, a subsidiary of Decama Capital, an Israeli investment company. The technology, which is already in development, enables energy storage through reversible fuel cells. The technology was developed under the leadership of Prof. Lior Elbaz, of Bar-Ilan’s Department of Chemistry.

Assisting Ukrainian Academics

In light of the challenging situation that the Ukrainian people are now facing due to the war in their country, Bar-Ilan University has established a special fund to assist Ukrainian guest researchers, lecturers, undergraduates, doctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows who come to the university.

Honorary Doctorates for 8 Women

Bar-Ilan University will award honorary doctorate degrees this year to eight influential women in the arts, sports, science, education, and business. Among the 2022 recipients are Israeli musician Chava Alberstein, Dr. Orna Berry, one of the founders of the Israeli high-tech sector, businesswoman Julia Zaher, medalist Yael Arad, author Galila Ron-Feder-Amit and  Rabbanit Malke Bina.
