Google Map of the Brain

Comparing the RNA of a healthy person with the RNA of someone who is ill can teach us a great deal about cancer, Alzheimer’s and various other diseases. Dr. Shahar Alon, of the Kofkin Faculty of Engineering, the Institute of Nanotechnology & Advanced Materials and the Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center at Bar-Ilan University, has developed a novel technique for detecting RNA molecules in tissue.

Self-control training, like training in any domain, is affected by the basic question of whether a person is motivated to improve self-control. Recent work has found that people differ as to how strongly they desire better self-control, and reveals some of the factors affecting this desire.

Stopping the spread of COVID-19 is difficult enough. It’s even more complicated and confusing when information and resources provided by governments are largely inaccessible to a variety of disabled populations. A newly-published global survey of national health authority websites in nearly 200 countries has directly quantified COVID-19 information accessibility.

Molecular 'Google Map' of the Brain

Over the last decade the field of genomics, which enables the extraction and in-depth study of RNA molecules from any tissue, has transformed biology and medicine. Molecules derived from a tissue of a healthy individual, for example, can be compared to molecules of a diseased individual, potentially revealing the cause of disease.

"And put my name upon the children of Israel."

For two millennia, Jews have imprinted signs and inscriptions on their bodies. Although the Bible prohibits tattooing (Leviticus 19:28: "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor imprint any marks upon you"), there were Jews who wrote the Lord’s name on their bodies, apparently with ink. Prof. Meir Bar-Ilan's research examines the evidence for this practice.
