Feminism in the Abrahamic Religions
Tager International Conference will be broadcast online January 31-February 2
What happens when gender, religion and law intersect? Bar-Ilan University is holding an international conference that will address such issues as the theological challenges that feminism poses to Judaism, Islam and Christianity, multiculturalism, law, and legal dilemmas related to religion and minorities, and more.
The Tager International Conference on Feminism in the Abrahamic Religions: Dilemmas of Gender and Law from a Multicultural Perspective will be held in an online format from Sunday, January 31 – Tuesday, February 2. For the conference program and registration.
The conference will feature lecturers from Israel and abroad, members of various faiths, including keynote speaker, The Right Hon. the Baroness (Brenda) Hale of Richmond, former President of the United Kingdom Supreme Court, and presenters from the Harvard Divinity School, the National Islamic University, Aix-Marseille University, Brandeis University, Bar-Ilan University and other academic institutions.
The online event will also include the official opening of the virtual exhibition “’’Body Text’: Feminist Art in Diverse Religio-Cultural Spheres in Israel”. The exhibition may be viewed here.
The conference is chaired by Prof. Ruth Halperin-Kaddari, Academic Director of BIU’s Rackman Center for the Advancement of Women's Status, and Dr. Ronit Irshai of the Gender Studies Program at Bar-Ilan.
