D-ID's platform enables the creation of lifelike digital personas based on uploaded images and customized text. The university's Learning and Teaching Division, recognizing the potential of this technology, initiated a pilot program under the guidance of Tzofia Simkovich and Dr. Auria Eizen Enosh.

The pilot program exposed students to various scenarios in specialized optical lens fitting and protective eyewear, leveraging dozens of videos that simulate medical situations. These interactive experiences allow students to engage in seemingly face-to-face conversations with AI-generated characters, providing a uniquely immersive learning environment.

Gil Perry, CEO and co-founder of D-ID, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: "This partnership showcases the enormous potential of 'digital humans' in training the next generation of professionals. Students receive a rich and interactive learning experience that simulates real-life situations. We are proud to be part of this successful pilot and look forward to continuing our collaboration."

Professor Yossi Mandel, head of the School of Optometry and Vision Science at Bar-Ilan, elaborated on the program's significance: "The school aims to train the next generation of optometrists. We invest significant resources to allow students to develop clinical knowledge and extensive clinical experience through frontal and digital studies, and especially through patient examinations in the school's clinics. By creating digital patients, we allow students to deal with a wide range of populations, clinical cases, and people with different personalities."

Yuval Schreibman, VP of Learning and Teaching Division at Bar-Ilan, contextualized the initiative within the university's broader strategy: "This collaboration is part of a university-wide program to create a unique, up-to-date, and digital learning experience."

This innovative approach to education demonstrates Bar-Ilan University's commitment to embracing cutting-edge technology in service of enhanced learning outcomes, potentially setting a new standard for medical education in the digital age.
