On Thursday, November 10, American Friends of Bar-Ilan University will be hosting a webinar featuring Professor Toby Greene who will be discussing the recent Israeli elections.

Prof. Greene will provide his analysis on the outcome of the 2022 Israel elections and what it means for the future of the nation and Israel’s relationship with the rest of the world.

BIU a Recipient of ERC's First Synergy Grant in Parasitology

The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded a Synergy Grant of 8.6 million euro to Institut Pasteur, Bar-Ilan University, and the Weizmann Institute of Science for a project that will generate unprecedented insight into the role of genome instability in eukaryotic adaptation by combining experimental evolution, analyses, RNA biology, and network modeling.

Implicit Bias in Tort Law

Dr. Maytal Gilboa’s research, at the Bar-Ilan Faculty of Law, challenges the idea that the foundations of tort doctrine are objective and neutral and therefore free from subjective influences. “The breach of the duty of care, for example, which is concerned with the question of whether the defendant behaved negligently, or the factors used to calculate the damages for pain and suffering, may be fertile ground for implicit bias to influence judges and other decision-makers,” notes Dr. Gilboa.

Prof. Malachi Noked Wins Climate Solutions Prize

Prof. Malachi Noked, of the Bar-Ilan University Department of Chemistry and the Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials received the Climate Solutions Prize, in recognition of the environmental impact of his work in developing active materials for sodium-ion batteries to create fuel cells as an environmentally friendly energy storage system.

The $2M prize was presented during the Climate Solutions Festival, a global conference bringing together government organizations, businesses, and non-profit entities to promote innovation in climate-related fields.

Nov 14-15: 5th Israeli Fuel Cells Consortium Workshop

On November 14-15, Bar-Ilan University will be hosting the 5th Israeli Fuel Cells Consortium Workshop.

The two-day workshop will feature academics from Israel and around the world who will discuss various aspects on the advancement of fuel cell development.

The event is sponsored by the Israel Science Foundation, Bazan Group, Sonol, and H2Pro.

Silver Medals for Israeli Computer Science Team Members from BIU

Four high school students on the Israeli computer science team won silver medals this year at the European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI). The team members were trained at the Bar-Ilan University Youth Center.

Five of Eleven BIU Deans are Women

This week, as Israeli higher education ushers in a new academic year, Bar-Ilan University is celebrating a particular milestone: nearly half of its 11 deans are female, a first in the University's history! The Hebrew Book that First Linked Science and Philosophy to Judaism

“Explanation of Foreign Terms" by Samuel ibn Tibbon, was one of the most widely read works in the Middle Ages. It is a glossary of some 190 Aristotelian philosophical-scientific words found in Maimonides’ work, “Guide of the Perplexed”, which required an explanation for Hebrew readers. Prof. Yehuda Halper, of BIU’s Department of Jewish Philosophy, who has developed software for editing and comparing philosophical manuscripts, recently won a grant from the Israel Science Foundation (ISF) to research this book.
