Campus Gardens

Providing a venue for relaxation and enjoyment, the Story Gardens on campus give expression to Bar-Ilan University’s founding principles that combine Jewish tradition with modern science and research. Each garden is built around an idea taken from our cultural ethos. The architectural elements – garden structure, flora, sculptures, furnishings – are intertwined and inspire an atmosphere that enriches the eye, spirit and thought alike. Just like a literary text which holds multiple meanings: the literal – that which is actually seen, the interpretation – what is implied between the lines, and the esoteric – the meaning beyond, thus are the gardens and nature corners designed on campus.

The Nathan Shapell Engineering Garden

This garden's design was inspired by the "Song of the Sea", one of the three hymns found in the Torah.

The Lilly Shapell Central Promenade

The White Route - displaying various symbols of unity.

The Lou Gonda Listening Ear Garden

The Listening Ear Garden is located between the Webb Psychology building and the Gonda Brain Research Center building.

The Song of Songs Garden Complex

Located next to the The Jack and Gitta Nagel Family Jewish Heritage Center, this complex is comprised of several different gardens, inspired by ideas and verses from the Bible's Song of Songs.

Garden in Praise of Women

This garden's design was inspired by the female reproductive anatomy. Through its natural flow, the main garden path emerges between the buildings, simulating a conceptual and spiritual birth.

The Galilean Synagogue Garden

The garden's design is based on a model of an ancient Galilean synagogue. It is surrounded by 12 columns, commemorating the 12 tribes of Israel.

The Labyrinth Garden

This garden is located next to the Nanotechnology Triplex, and although it is the tallest building on campus, its architects made it a point to acknowledge that man is but a speck compared to the greatness and might of God.

The Nano Garden

This garden is located on the eastside of the Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials (BINA) building triplex. Despite it being the highest building on campus, the concept behind the design is the smallness of man and the grandeur of the Lord.

The Peter & Aliki Rzepka 12 Tribes Plaza

This garden is situated in the heart of the BIU campus, adjacent to the The Lilly Shapell Central Promenade, the white route leading to the Dahan Family Unity Park.
