Prof. Joshua Teitelbaum Appointed Visiting Fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution

Prof. Teitelbaum, a leading historian at BIU’s Department of Middle Eastern Studies, will share his research on the Saudi armed forces with Stanford faculty and students.

Former US Secretary of State Prof. Condoleezza Rice, Director of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, has appointed Bar-Ilan University Prof. Joshua Teitelbaum as a Visiting Fellow for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Prof. Teitelbaum is a leading historian and expert on the modern Middle East, specializing in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. He teaches Middle Eastern History in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at Bar-Ilan University and is Principal Research Fellow at the University's Begin-Sadat (BESA) Center for Strategic Studies. At Stanford, he will engage in historical research about the Saudi armed forces and will give lectures to the Stanford faculty and students about his research.

Prof. Teitelbaum has a long-standing relationship with Stanford University, which includes appointments in research and teaching institutes within the Department of Political Science. For many years he was Visiting Fellow and Contributor to the Herbert and Jane Dwight Working Group on Islamism and the International Order at the Hoover Institution, Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science, and Visiting Scholar at the Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law. Most recently he was Visiting Scholar at Stanford’s Center for International Security and Cooperation, where he is currently an Affiliate Scholar.

Prof. Teitelbaum's forthcoming book, The Saudi Arabian National Guard: Tribalism, the Royal Family, and Politics in Modern Saudi Arabia, will be published by Stanford University Press.
